This video is gorgeous and reminds many of the happy cows who danced their way into people’s hearts. Maxine the cow also managed to capture hearts, influence people’s choices, and was able to change her human-decided fate – she escaped slaughter!
On the night of the 18th of September 2007, Maxine was spotted on the streets of Queens. She was tagged for slaughter and her fate apparently sealed, but she escaped that fate and literally ran for her life! Local authorities brought her to Animal Care & Control. NYC journalists couldn’t get enough of the story of a cow fleeing imminent death, and as word of Maxine’s flight spread, Farm Sanctuary members began calling requesting action and pledging support.
From there, Farm Sanctuary‘s rescue team stepped in to bring Maxine to safety at their sanctuary where she will live out her life in peace and comfort.
If people are capable of connecting with one individual animal’s will to live, there’s no reason to not expand that compassion to every other of the 70 billion animals who are grown for human consumption every single year. In the immortal word’s of Edgar’s Mission:
If we could live happy and healthy lives without harming others… why wouldn’t we?
